Statues of Blizzard
While many people know about the Orc, this is just one of our many statues, including two other permanent displays. As both employees and fans of these statues, we wanted to share their origin stories with you.
Fun Facts
- BlizzCon visitors have had a chance to see many of our statues when they visit the Anaheim Convention Center.
- A new trend is to also offer a smaller version of our large statues as a collectible!
Permanent Statues
Kerrigan, Queen of Blades
A bronze version of this Kerrigan statue, built in 2008, stands outside of the Blizzard offices in Versailles, France. She stands 14 feet tall—appropriately intimidating for the queen of the Zerg.
Arthas, the Lich King
2016 marked the 25th anniversary of the founding of Blizzard Entertainment; and what better way to celebrate this epic milestone, than by casting one of the company’s most iconic characters in a 14 foot, 4,000 pound, truly one-of-a-kind statue. Located on the Calligraphy Greenway in Taichung, Taiwan, this bronze portrayal of the Lich King Arthas Menethil wasn’t created just to commemorate an anniversary, but also to recognize and celebrate the incredible Taiwanese gaming community.
The Orc
After over a year of intense work, the 12 foot tall, 2 ton bronze orc warrior now stands watch in the courtyard of Blizzard Entertainment’s Irvine campus. Read our in-depth article for more.
Life-sized Statues
Sylvanas, The Banshee Queen
The Sylvanas figure and base stand 8 feet tall and weigh approximately 200 pounds. Sylvanas is primarily made of silicone (for her skin), polyester resin, and epoxy resin. Created by Alliance Studio, she marks the first time they created a statue for display with flowing hair.
Though we’ve heard the rumor that actual vertebrae were used for her statue’s bow, we’re sorry to disappoint—they’re just excellent facsimiles of the real thing.
Colossal Tracer, Pharah, Genji
Read more about assembling the giants and watch the video.
Oversized Gorehowl
The structure of the axe was made by creating a custom steel support frame that was embedded into a series of CNC foam carved panels. The foam was then coated in a hard coat polyurea material. The final finish was created using a combination of airbrushed and hand-painted techniques. The finished creation stands 15 feet tall and weighs just over 450 pounds.
As excitement mounted for the launch of Warlords of Draenor, we unleashed an epic spectacle in New York City’s Times Square on November 11 & 12, 2014. To herald the arrival of the Iron Horde, we slashed one of the city's iconic Yellow Cabs in half with a giant version of Grommash Hellscream’s battle axe, Gorehowl. The display caused quite a commotion, garnering coverage across the world.
Life Size Tracer Statue
For her chronal accelerator chest feature, a special multi-layered projection screen and animation were created to emulate a hologram effect. A great deal of research and prototyping using new materials led to the printing of numerous 3D models to house all the different size mirrors and lens configurations. This effort corrected the projector’s short-throw keystone effect and resulted in an animated holographic feature of the proper brightness and clarity.
Tracer was built using urethane resin, fiberglass, steel, leather, PETG, spandex, shock cords, electrical wiring, LED lighting, dental acrylic, and magnets. She stands about 6’6”, and weighs just over 200 pounds.
Grommash Hellscream
Statues are usually carved out of foam, but Grommash was fully sculpted from clay onto the base, making him the equivalent of two statues in size. His build team created him with fiberglass, silicone, aluminum, human and yak hair, clay, wood, plastics, resins, leather, paints, assorted electronics, and an industrial humidifier. Grommash stands 8’6” high and weighs 450 pounds.
- Glowing blood was created with layers of translucent resins and internally lit.
- Bubbles in the blood pools were handmade out of vacuform plastic spheres.
- Authentic deer sinew was used for thread to sew Grommash's leather clothing. The plates sewn on his tasset and all other armor parts were forged out of real metal.
Tyrael, Archangel of Justice
Tyrael was crafted from fiberglass, silicon, silk, urethane, aluminum, chainmail, heatshrink, lexan, wood, chromoly steel, carbon fiber, kevlar, glass, paint, electronics and lights. He stands 14 feet tall and weighs about 700 pounds.
- Metal ornamentation on the base was made of aluminum plate and cut with water.
- Approximately 14,400 LEDs were used to light Tyrael's wings
- According to Steve Wang, Tyrael was by far the most complicated statue he’s created for Blizzard—and it was completed in six weeks.
- The costume’s embroidery was made of superfine high-grade gold silk.
- The lights in Tyrael’s wings are computer controlled to simulate random bursts of energy.
Jim Raynor
The Jim Raynor statue stands 8’6” tall and weighs about 400 pounds. Built using fiberglass, silicon, rubber hosing, steel, human hair, acrylic, paint, wood, plastics, steel armature, and bondo, this statue included a few steps that were out of the ordinary:
- In order to sculpt Jim’s face accurately, his head was projected onto the raw materials using in-game graphics.
- Jim’s hair is human hair, with each piece hand-punched and placed individually. His beard was also hand-punched, then shaved down to stubble.
- The lights on his back thrusters were programmed to change color from blue to red, to simulate the thrusters getting hot.
- Height - 8.5'
- Weight - 400 pounds
Kerrigan, Queen of Blades
The original fiberglass Kerrigan statue was built in 2008, and was crafted with silicon, aluminum, acrylic, paint, wood, plastics, latex, and bondo. She stands 14 feet tall, and is exactly as imposing and terrifying as Kerrigan should be. She’s even accompanied by realistic creep effects.
Illidan, The Betrayer
Illidan is crafted from fiberglass, silicon, aluminum, acrylic, paint, wood, plastics, latex, bondo. He is a bit shorter than Kerrigan, but stands at 12 feet tall and weighs about 400 pounds. In order to simulate his fel effects, Illidan’s body was painted with UV paint and illuminated by black light. His wings are made of layers of translucent material, making them appear more natural and lifelike.
Nova
November "Nova" Terra was built in statue form in 2005. Built with fiberglass, silicon, aluminum, acrylic, paint, wood, plastics, latex, and bondo, she was put together by Steve Wang’s epic team. Height: '9.5
Dwarf
The Dwarf, created in 2002, was Blizzard’s first statue. Standing 9 feet tall, the dwarf was our first step into the world of statues. He’s made of latex, foam, and wood, and he—like Jim Raynor—has hand-punched hair for both his eyebrows and beard. His gun was custom-built by a toy manufacturer.
Moving the Statues
Many of our statues take a trip to BlizzCon each year or make moves between Blizzard buildings, which requires the talents of a professional logistics company for each move. Somewhere between 4-8 movers carefully disassemble each statue to safely transport them in large trucks, and then reassemble them at the new location. A small crew from Alliance Studio assists with the set up and teardown, including finishing repairs in case any minor damage occurs during transport.
Azeroth Choppers
Legendary custom motorcycle designer Paul Jr. assembled two handpicked teams of bike experts to bring to life a pair of asphalt-kicking chopper designs inspired by World of Warcraft's two warring faction. Read more.

Statue Interview: Brian Fay & Brianne Loftis
In our quest to learn more about Blizzard statues, we sat down for an interview with Brian Fay (Senior Sculptor) and Brianne Loftis (Creative Development Producer). They gave us more details about what goes into creating these masterpieces.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I started at Blizzard in February 2012. I came out to California and saw that there was a lot of opportunity to expand our toys and statues program. At the time, we had an external company making our statues, and releasing one every 12-18 months. By bringing everything in-house, we got to control every aspect of production, including in-person reviews with our game teams, which streamlines the whole feedback process.
What is your day-to-day like?
I always have an ongoing sculpting project that takes up most of the day. I still get to work in wax a lot, which I really enjoy, so I jump to it first thing in the morning. We have factory samples to review and give feedback on throughout production—from overall casting quality, to paint, to packaging. The sculpting team also gives feedback to one another to keep everything moving along, we have a lot of work to handle. We help each other 3D print things for meetings, mold and cast parts [Editor’s note: a mold is a reversed impression of a sculpture which is used to cast replica sculptures; a cast produces copies of a sculpture], and clean up prototypes.
How do we produce the big statues we see at Blizzcon?
I’ve been involved with Grommash, Arthas, Tracer, and Sylvanas since joining Blizzard. The life-size statues are created by Alliance Studio, led by Steve Wang and Eddie Yang. A team of artists bring the statues to life, with art direction from Blizzard—we make regular trips to their studio and stay in touch over email. Most of the statues are done with a combination of digital and traditional sculpting, incorporating real fabric, silicone and hair where needed. Since I’ve been here, we always supply Alliance Studio with a maquette [Ed. Note: a small, scale model or rough draft of an unfinished sculpture] as a guide for the artists to replicate on a larger scale. It’s usually a casting, but it can also be a digital model.
Grommash was modeled after a smaller statue I made here at Blizzard. Alliance Studio scanned the statue and built a steel armature [Ed. Note: a framework around which the sculpture is built] to work on top of. From there, they added a foam block out and started cutting out Grommash’s shape. Lastly, the sculptors added clay on top of the foam, which let them put in all the details that brought the sculpture to life.
I did an Arthas figure for the World of Warcraft action figure line, and that inspired the pose for the bronze Arthas. We supplied Alliance with a digital model as a guide to all the armor shape language, which also helped them create the steel armature. From there, they sculpted the entire statue from scratch, with every single detail painstakingly done by hand. It was awe-inspiring to watch. They cast the finished parts in wax, which is then molded in a special process as part of the lost-wax casting used to make bronze statues. Sculptors melt the wax out of the mold, leaving a void into which they cast molten bronze. After cooling, they chip off the molds, and cleanup and assembly begins.
Sylvanas was also created with a combination of digital and traditional sculpting. I worked off a digital model provided by Jason Huang on our cinematic team; we saved time by using the same model, but needed to adjust certain details for the life-size statue, which has a bigger palette to work with. The sculptors used real cloth, leather, silicone and hair to bring her to life. We especially wanted to make sure she had flowing hair, and Alliance found a way to pull it off flawlessly. It wasn’t an easy task. We started work on Tracer with a posed digital model that we 3D-printed and cleaned up. Then, we placed fabric and leather over the printed parts for a more realistic look—her leather jacket even has wear and tear! All those details are applied by hand at Alliance Studio with the Overwatch team giving feedback in person.
If you could sculpt your dream statue what would it be?
I would really like to see us make a giant Deathwing statue. It would look so cool hanging on the edge of the main building on [our Irvine] campus, overlooking the land. Can you imagine real flames in his mouth and chest?! That would be an incredible project to be involved with.
I’d also like to help build a life-size Treasure Goblin from Diablo standing atop his heap of treasure. This one’s a bit more realistic to produce, and it’d be extremely fun to see.
How do you determine what statues you're going to work on next?
We have a very long wish list of things we’d like to do, and just pull names off that list. We’d also like to create more unusual or old-school characters, but we have to think about our bandwidth. There’s just a small team of us, and I work like a turtle. We’ve also got to consider space in our warehouse—we can’t pack it with statues that are slowly rolling out.
How long does it take to make one of these life-sized statues?
The life-size statues can take over twenty weeks to create. If we try to rush it, it will show in the final product, so we like to give them time to really polish the work. But we treat every statue, from our life-sized ones to our collectibles to our Cute But Deadly collaborations with the same attention to detail.
How do buildings at Blizzard get assigned statues when they are done?
Team leadership sometimes lobbies for certain statues in advance of moving to a new building or area. As teams are planning new spaces, they’ll also think about beautification in advance. If we’re creating a statue that is 8 feet tall, what does that mean for the lobby? Do they change the ceiling height? When we changed one lobby around, Grommash couldn’t fit in there anymore and had to move. The Vault, a group of specialists whose sole focus is the promotion and preservation of Blizzard art, manages that process. Since our team, Story and Franchise Development, made Sylvanas, we requested her for our building.
The Raynor statue has a circle around his head for fire clearance. The development team had to change their lobby to accommodate him.
What is it like seeing your work the focus of attention and adoration?
Each one of these statues takes a lot of time, including the smaller-scale stuff. We try to capture and in some cases up-rez detail from the games to make our players feel like the product just stepped right out of the game. It does feel extremely rewarding to hear people point out all the small details that you’ve spent so long making. It makes everything worthwhile.

Mike Morhaime on 20 Years of StarCraft Esports
Originally Posted by Blizzard EntertainmentMike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, goes back to the beginning with StarCraft, and has had a hand in every expression of the sci-fi title since then. Beyond his involvement in creating the original game, Morhaime has been a fan of StarCraft esports since before esports was even a word. On the 20th anniversary of StarCraft, Morhaime took time to share some of his favorite memories on the growth of the game’s esports scene.
When StarCraft was released in 1998, Blizzard was already known for real-time strategy (RTS) games. Warcraft and Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness were two of the genre's top titles, so when it came time to make a new game, another RTS was the obvious choice.
“The artists were tired of drawing fantasy, so we thought we’d set this one in space,” said Morhaime. “The first pass was converting all of our tilesets. We used the Warcraft II engine and reskinned it, and we showed up at E3. People were pretty underwhelmed. There weren’t any mechanics yet. We had three months to put something together, and nobody was raving about our game yet.”
Back in 1996, the first alpha version of StarCraft was skewered by critics as “Warcraft in space.” Seeing the unenthusiastic response lit a fire under the nascent crew of Blizzard developers.
“There were a lot of RTSs in development at the time, and we felt like we needed to do much better," Morhaime said. "So Bob Fitch rewrote the engine, we modified the art, and really leveled up our ambitions for the game.”
When StarCraft launched in March of 1998, it received high praise and became the best-selling PC game of the year. But as Morhaime soon found out, that achievement unlocked a new horizon: people were playing the game on a serious, competitive level.
As Morhaime said, “There were companies that were doing tournaments, so we added support in Battle.net for pro players to have gamer tags. Then we started hearing that it was taking off in Korea and that there was a lot of competition going on. I hadn’t really seen anything like that until I took a trip out there. When we hit two million copies sold they held this big celebration, and this auditorium was completely packed. That was the first live esports event I ever went to.
“It was incredible. The crowd was really into it and they were cheering every time something happened. It was so much fun and there were so many people there. The fans were completely into it. It was amazing.
“The other thing that was surprising was that everyone there knew StarCraft. You could talk to people at the hotel or even people on the street, and StarCraft was a household thing. At the event, I gave a short little speech, and I introduced Bob Fitch as the lead programmer of StarCraft. He got a standing ovation.”
It was the birth of something special. Korea’s interest in StarCraft had exploded, and Morhaime had a front-row seat to the burgeoning esports scene in Seoul. For Blizzard as a whole, exploring new ways to support StarCraft esports fans, players, and casters begat more support for StarCraft as a franchise.
“Every time I visited Korea I got to see something live,” Morhaime said. “They’d have little mini-stadiums and stages where people could compete. There was an esports studio at the COEX [Mall]."
“I went to the opening of GSL [Global StarCraft II League]. After the opening, every time I came to GSL I would go and watch the games in their studio and just get a bunch of pizzas for everyone. I remember Artosis [caster Dan Stemkowski] would complain because there were no vegetarian pizzas, and he’s a vegetarian. I don’t eat pepperoni either, so I always made sure to get a vegetarian pizza for myself [and for] Artosis.”
StarCraft was a phenomenon and in Korea it had become a household name. But without the engaged and popular esports scene that Korea boasted, few in the West knew about the high-level play that professionals were exhibiting there. If only there were an event that Western audiences could get behind to experience the thrill of esports. Enter the BlizzCon, in 2005.
“Although BlizzCon grew out of the desire to have a World of Warcraft fan meetup, we decided to make it into a festival celebrating all of our games,” Morhaime said. “At the time StarCraft and Warcraft III esports were both pretty big, so we did invitational tournaments for each of those games. Esports wasn’t really a mainstream thing in the U.S. yet, so I think this was really exposing people to esports more than anything. People loved it."
“There was a year [2011] we had the GSL Finals at BlizzCon," he recalled. "I think it was MMA vs Mvp, and MMA won. The hall was completely packed. There were people sitting on the floor because we ran out of seats. They had some technical difficulties with soundproofing the player booths or something, so it went very late into the evening on Friday night. And it was just awesome because everyone stayed. They had to fill time, so they showed a documentary about Tasteless living in Korea. So we just waited, and the games were awesome and epic, the crowd was awesome, and it was this really great moment because StarCraft II was still pretty young.”
StarCraft II, which launched in July 2010, had a lot to live up to. With such a huge scene of ravenous fans, big expectations fell on a second installment to the popular franchise and the development team was committed to making a game worthy of the name StarCraft. After being developed under the codename Medusa, Blizzard announced the highly anticipated sequel to a gargantuan crowd in Seoul.
“In 2007, we rented out the Olympic Park and had a Worldwide Invitational event, which was mostly themed around StarCraft. We had some Korean K-pop bands come and play, like Super Junior, Ivy, and Psy was our headliner. When we played the StarCraft II cinematic and made the announcement, that was huge.”
Looking back on the long and rich history of the franchise, Morhaime shares his unique perspective as a fan—albeit one with some influence—on StarCraft’s place in the esports pantheon.
“I think with StarCraft II we were a little bit late, coming 12 years after the original,” he said. “If we were a little earlier, it would’ve been better for the game. But I think [it] has a permanent place in the history of esports because StarCraft II, at least in the very early years of Twitch, was the game of choice, and a key reason they decided to start the company in the first place."
With his hands-on development years behind him and his duties as president of Blizzard front and center, Morhaime still follows the game’s esports scene as an informed fan. He attends live events, holds occasional viewing parties at home, and keeps up with the best of the best as they display their skills on a global stage.
“I think esports is like regular sports or a live concert," Morhaime said. "It’s qualitatively different when you’re there with other people sharing the experience with the crowd. Even when you’re watching online, it’s important to hear the cheers of the crowd to make it feel more real.”
Bringing that level of connection to fans is one of StarCraft’s main contributions to the conversation around gaming over the past 20 years. Like millions of others around the world, Mike Morhaime, the StarCraft esports fan, is ready to see what the next two decades of StarCraft will bring. -

Armory Stats - First Aid Profession
Battle for Azeroth appeared to be removing First Aid as a profession, with the First Aid achievements being moved to legacy achievements. The same build also moved bandages to Tailoring, but that has changed.
Currently bandages like Embersilk Bandage are again categorized as First Aid (Bandages), but First Aid trainers no longer teach the profession in game.
Today we are looking at the First Aid level of 2.3 million players (US and EU) active in the last two months. The highest First Aid level of all of the characters on each player's account was selected.

This Week in WoW History
We're taking a look back at old MMO-Champion posts and World of Warcraft news that occurred during this time in previous years.
Patch 4.1 Mounts
The PTR servers saw the addition on a handful of new mounts and pets which would be released with the first major content patch of Cataclysm. Two color variations of the Fire Hawk mount, initially called the Crimson and Baryl Fire Hawks, were found on the PTR. Later these were renamed to the Pureblood Fire Hawk and the Felfire Hawk, both of which are still obtainable. With the rework of the two new dungeons, the Razzashi Raptor, and Zulian Panther were also added as drops from each instance. The Molten Front Offensive featured the addition of a mount as well, the Flameward Hippogryph.
Legendary Staff
Early datamining of the 4.1 PTR Patch revealed a potential new Legendary Weapon used by casters. The first legendary questline since the Shadowmourne in Icecrown Citadel had been found. This quest and item had a lot of similarities with the ICC one in that the quest line would start with crafting a basic version of a weapon and then upgrading it through unique objectives and collection quests in the raid.
WoW Token Introduced
On March 2, 2015 Blizzard introduced the WoW Token! This item allows players to simply and securely exchange gold and game time between each other. This essentially allowed players to purchase gold (from other players) or play the game for free if they had lots of gold. Last year Blizzard allowed the token to be exchanged for Battle.Net balance.
Darkmoon Faire Race
Patch 6.1 added a new feature to the Darkmoon Faire. The Faire Race, if completed in time, rewards participants with vanity items, toys, and a pet. The race course includes many obstacles and hidden boosts such as speed boosts and springs. Completing the race within 11 bell tolls awards the Darkmoon Racer Roadhog achievement.
Cindermane Charger
2015 saw the addition of a mount molded by Ragnaros. The Cindermane Charger is available for players who participate the Recruit-A-Friend program. This program offers unique benefits for both players, such as an experience boost, game time, mounts, and pets. To participate, just open the social tab, and click the Recruit A Friend button. You will be asked to fill out some information, and after the player you recruited joins the game, the rewards will become available.
Falcosaur Mounts
The Falcosaur Mounts were found in early Legion datamining and their sources were unknown. Shortly after the launch of the expansion, a new secret quest line along with a new faction was added to the game. After killing a Matriarch in the Swarm! World quest, an Orphan Falcosaur would spawn. This began a secret quest line unique to each type of falcosaur mount which would ultimately unlock the mount version of the Orphan along with a new faction, Talon’s Vengeance.
Journey to Un’goro
The fifth expansion of Hearthstone introduced a few new mechanics into the game. Besides all the new available cards, each class received a unique Quest card which required the player to complete an objective during a game to unlock a special benefit. This new card marked the emergence of a few new decks, among which Quest Rogue, and Quest (or Exodia) Mage, were perhaps the most popular. The second new mechanic added was Adapt. This allowed the card being adapted to gain one of three random benefits, such as Windfury or Divine Shield, among other ones. Aggro decks such as Paladin, Shaman, and Druid made good use of this mechanic, allowing for early board control and tempo.
Hunter Animations
Hunters were not forgotten with the Legion animation overhaul. Patch 7.2 added new animations to Arcane Shot, Barrage, Bestial Wrath, Black Arrow, Bursting Shot, Butchery, Cobra Shot, Concussive Shot, Kill Command, Marked Shot, Multi-Shot, and Piercing Shot. With the expected rework of Survival in the next expansion, we might also see a few new or updated spells in the near future.
New Overwatch Support Hero Brigitte Announced
Brigitte Lindholm, daughter of Torbjorn, is the newest hero announced for overwatch. She is a support and tank hybrid who uses a flail and shield to heal, give armor and attack her enemies.

Venturebeat Esports Interview with Mike Morhaime and Kim Phan Recap
Venturebeat sat down for an interview with Mike Morhaime and Kim Phan to discuss the Overwatch League and esports!
- Engagement levels between esports and traditional sports is not that different. In some cases esports is higher.
- This is just the beginning. More interest is coming now from traditional players, sponsors and broadcast companies.
- Sponsors from traditional sports are starting to look into esports now.
- There is a lot of room for growth. Media companies are trying to devote a part of their business to this segment.
- Each game title will have its own trends just like different sports do.
- The dynamics are changing. Cable subscription dollars have no benefit to esports.
- Unlike sports, where you watch esports is the same place where you play the game and will likely help its engagement grow faster.
- Blizzard is listening to feedback and trying to come up with ways to make Overwatch easier to understand to viewers.
- Blizzard tries to implement things in spectating that adhere to both a non-player and a fan.
- It is up to each individual fan whether the game or the players in the league are the most interesting part of watching.
- Getting a strong stable of team owners who were invested in the league was important to initial success.
- The development team is also very important and making sure the same strategy isn't used over and over.
- The idea of City-based teams was taken from traditional sports and helps with sponsorship.

Duncan Jones Syfy Interview
Duncan Jones recently had an interview on syfy to discuss many things including the Warcraft film.
Originally Posted by MMO-ChampionWhat was the hardest scene you ever had to shoot (or write)?
Warcraft was a political minefield as far as filmmaking goes. And I think a lot of the rewriting in that, over the course of making the movie was really, really difficult and at times disheartening. Just being forced to make changes and compromises just due to the politics and the nature of that film. So, that was a real heart-wrencher. But I've learned a lot and I've become more mature and able to deal with those kinds of situations because I've been through it now. But at the time, that felt pretty traumatic.
It was mainly studio politics. You know, Legendary had an incredibly turbulent period while we were making Warcraft. They were associated with Warner Bros. They left Warner Bros. and joined Universal. They were sold to Wanda, this Chinese conglomerate. They lost or replaced a number of their producing staff halfway through our movie.
And at the same time as all of that, we were also working with Blizzard, who understandably were very careful about what happened with the movie because their bread and butter was the game Warcraft, which was bringing in a billion dollars a year for them. So, whatever we did with the movie was likely to be small potatoes compared to how important the game was for them. So it was really a very active political landscape.
I think I learned a lot from that experience and if I ever put myself in that situation again, even though I went into it eyes open, I'm a lot wiser now.
What was your best day on set, and what happened?
I would say one of the things about Warcraft is that we got to build some phenomenal, huge film sets and one of them was the exterior of the city of Stormwind. We built this huge chunk of the town.
This Week in WoW History
We're taking a look back at old MMO-Champion posts and World of Warcraft news that occurred during this time in previous years.
PTR Patch 4.1
The first content patch of the Cataclysm was set to bring back two iconic raids in the form of 5-man dungeons. After the zones were reworked, the mounts which previously dropped also became unobtainable and replaced with new ones. The two dungeons, Zul’aman and Zul’gurub were both accessible through the dungeon finder, with Zul’aman having a special timer which guaranteed the drop of a mount if completed in time.
Method vs. Dragon Soul
Method made a cinematic style video that showed off the Dragon Soul raid. The movie included all of the cinematics and boss fights.
Nightsong
The Video Game Music Choir (VGMC) performed the song “Nightsong” from the Cataclysm soundtrack and uploaded their interpretation to their YouTube channel. The VGMC has created multiple interpretations of game music, however their Warcraft song remains one of the most popular.
Warlords of Draenor Press Event
Blizzard held a few press events throughout Europe and Korea, revealing some new information about the new expansion. After the press events new in-game footage and screenshots were revealed and shared across media-sites. The events mostly showed off the starting zones of the expansions and Garrison construction.
PvP Brawls
2017 introduced a new feature for everyone who enjoys casual Battlegrounds. The new PvP Brawls were set to rotate on a timer and rewarded participants with extra rewards. The initial set of Brawls included the Gravity Lapse, Tarren Mill vs. Southshore and the Warsong Scramble. More modes were added after the success of this new battleground type.

Just because I'm enjoying your company doesn't mean I don't also want to punch you.
Before we go any further, I need to know... How high is your pain threshold?
Hey... aren't you the one who left that abandoned garrison littering up Frostfire?
Azeroth has so many rules about who you can stab, who you can't stab... who you can punch, who you can't punch... You guys need to loosen up!
The Shattered Hand are legendary warriors, but don't ever ask one of them for a back rub. Trust me on this one... < pained sounds >
Enough of this wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... BLAH! Just let me smash stuff!
I dyed my hair green once. Warchief Hellscream was NOT amused.
You can call me uncorrupted, but I prefer to think of myself as an organic orc.

Good luck getting rid of 'em! I smuggle goods. I'm no mercenary.
Alliance
Mekkatorque has improved upon his D.R.O.N.E. technology and needs a field evaluation of it's capabilities. We've heard there are a great number of blood trolls hiding nearby. Use it to seek and destroy!
It seems this technology will be incredibly useful for our forces. Well done!
Oh my, is that how you Alliance normally dress? You should just leave before you die from embarrassment.
Hello Alliance, is that your ship? Did a sea giant attack it, or is that how it usually looks? *laugh*
Ugh, what is that? oh, the Alliance are here. Do you know why they smell like that? It's because they eat so much cheese.
Swim into the ocean or bathe in my flames, your choice Alliance.
Business opportunities, that's what I see. Might even be able to sell the Alliance off as scrap.
Looks like this place has a lot to offer, shade, loot... Alliance? Well now it's ruined.
Channel your energies, Alliance are here. We will make no mistakes.
Focus now, worthy enemies are near. Also some Alliance as well it seems.
Oh how unfortunate. For you, Alliance. We will put you in your place soon enough.
The Elements are out of balance here, let us see if we can help. Don't get in our way Alliance.
The winds have guided us here along with the Alliance. Sometimes the elements still surprise me.
Steer clear of us Alliance, or I will be forced to crush you.
Let's keep away from them, I've heard bad things about the Alliance.
I see Alliance are here as well, and they are still alive. Let's fix that.
Looks like there are Alliance here, don't bother us and we won't bother you.
There's treasure on that island that isn't on board my ship yet. Move it you lay-abouts! Take what the Alliance have as well.
Allowing the Alliance a foothold in Zandalar would be disastrous. Salvage what you can, but give the Alliance no mercy.
Preventing them from gaining a foothold keeps our home safe. May Gonk give you swift reward for fulfilling his vengeance.
Horde
Horde savages! We will allow you to leave, if you place all of your Azerite into a nice pile for us. Do you know what a pile is?
Ahh, Horde, I'll speak slow. Island... ours... you... leave...
Horde, Unwashed, Unimaginitive, Un-encumbered of Intellect. How did you get here? Are you lost?
Shoo, bad Horde mongrels!
Know. Your. Place.
*Sniff* *Sniff* Horde! I wish I was upwind right now...
Horde! The hunt begins, let's run them down. *howls*
Oooh the Horde are here, it's about to go down.
Haha, the Horde! Yes, at last, some real action. I'm going to have to take my shirt off for this one!
Horde's here, so listen up: Do your jobs out there, or I'll shoot you myself. Form up.
Violence has resolved more conflicts than anything else in history, let's make it one more.
The only good bug is a dead bug. You Horde look a lot like bugs.
Squashed.
We got Horde here, lock and load boys. Shoot first and loot later.
Oh boy, Horde are here, are you guys sure about this? I have delicate instruments. And they're EXPENSIVE.
Can I just do my victory pose now? You think I should kill some Horde first? Oh very well.
Classic adventure! An uncharted island, unknown dangers and treasures await! Wait, where did the Horde come from?
Battles
Your eyes seem uncertain about something, $n. You may ask me freely about my plans, if you wish.
Warchief, may I ask why we want to capture Teldrassil?
Time is sensitive here, but I respect that you seek to know more.
< Sylvanas points to Silithus on the map >.
No matter what I do, THIS will change the balance of power.
And azerite sightings are coming in from across the world, $n. We still do not know its full potential, we only know that it will create a new generation of warfare.
What will war look like in twenty years? In a hundred?
What is certain is that Teldrassil and its Night Elves pose a clear threat to the peace and safety of the Horde on Kalimdor.
Darnassus will serve as a safe harbor for smuggling azerite to the Eastern Kingdoms. We simply cannot allow this to occur.
To win this war, we must control the azerite. To control the azerite, we must eliminate the Kal'dorei threat.
We do not have time to waste.
A wall of wisps? Hah! That is nothing that our Dark Rangers and demolishers cannot overcome, my lady.
The scouting party I led to Malfurion underestimated the wisps as you do now, Nathanos. You may want to note that they did not return.
We cannot kill them -- well -- not enough of them to matter. But we may be able to disperse them.
$n, make yourself useful around camp. We need to keep the Kal'dorei's attention while I come up with a solution to our wisp problem.
Interesting. The wisps are just responding to Malfurion's call. But what if more of the forest were to cry out for help?
That is precisely what I was thinking. $n, would you be so kind as to test our theory?
The Warchief wants to scare off the wisps, eh? I have just the thing.
You wanna fly this thing? Or do you wanna drop the bombs?
I can fly. Lighting the forest on fire isn't my style.
I'm still trying to figure out the space for this. We may need to clear some trees out or get a tree asset that I can make glow.
Pretend it was awesome and that wisps broke out from the wall, creating visible cracks where you bombed.
Hmmm, this wisps were dispersing? Excellent. Our plan may just work.
Are you sure you want to do this? It has zero impact on the storyline, apart from bragging rights.
Make haste! The Warchief awaits!
Yes, Warchief.
Then it's time to finish this once and for all. Saurfang, rally your troops. I will prepare the Azerite Machine.
Champions! Your Warchief commands you! It is time to take arms against the Alliance!
Their numbers are strong, but we are stronger. We are the Horde! We conquer those who would bring us harm!
Lok'tar ogar!
Slay them all, champions! Mark my words, King Anduin and his army did not come here for our amusement - they mean to destroy us! Show them no mercy, for they would show you none in return!
Maintain your honor, heroes. Lok-narash
Meet with Lor'themar. QUICKLY! Do not fail me, Nathanos!
I obey, my queen.
Blight throwers, you're our front line! You will create a line of blight between us and the army!
Lor'themar, I want you to command our rangers from the flank! Position them on the rooftops!
The pleasure is mine, Dark Lord.
Baine! Gather the catapults and every apothecary you can find. Send them to the keep at once!
Yes, commander. Where is Saurfang?
There is no time! We have but precious moments before we lose our terrain advantage!
The chokepoint we create will funnel them through the side of the keep and thin their ranks. We will outnumber them 10 to 1 if we are out in the open!
Understood. I will meet you as soon as I can.
No. Lor'themar and I will handle the interlopers. I can't risk leaving the Warchief unguarded. You are not to leave her side.
How long are you expecting to hold them off? What is the Warchief's strategy?
It is better if she tells you herself, now go!
Hahaha! Look who joins the fray. Good, I was hoping you'd keep this interesting!
The Alliance is on its last legs, champions! More than half of their soldiers are down.
Their assault will soon falter. Stay strong!
Lordaeron belongs to the Forsaken! Do not back down, heroes!
The void elves... those traitors keep coming.
Have faith in the warchief, Theron!
Honor means nothing to a corpse, Saurfang. You have the luxury of underestimating death, but it is something with which I am intimately familiar.
Maybe you don't care if your people die so long as it is honorable, but to me, this Horde is worth saving. Anyone who disagrees does not deserve to stand among us.
So die your warrior's death, High Overlord Saurfang. It means little to me. Perhaps I will raise your broken body to serve me once more.
Or perhaps you will have a chance to say hello to your son.
Champions, with me. You are invited to bear witness to the grand finale.
Go my pets! Rip them apart!
Acolyte, tear that barricade down!
My demolisher will rip you to shreds! You only forestall the inevitable!
Hozen
Flying hozen? How?
Slickies of Zandalar are wierd. Too ookin' salty, and they sometimes talk back.
Like me new wings? Fast they may be, no slicky can hide from me!
Wikkets either.
Filthy wikkets.
Juvenile Pterrordax Training
Your little one has no faith in its wings. You must continue to show it the joy of the skies.
For now we are going to teach it an object lesson.
Small thing! If you want to return to the nest, you better start running.
Juvenile Pterrordax screeches in indignation and runs off.
What's with the kite?
Well, I fixed it. You're welcome, by the way.
I noticed it was looking a little forlorn. Perhaps you could take it for another flight! It could sure use the exercise.
It takes time for it to get back up to the roost, being unable to fly and all. I'm sure it's fine.
Check back later and it should return.
< Offer the Medium Dino Food. >
< The pterrordax inspects your hands for food. >
Skree? SKREE.
Juvenile Pterrordax launches itself at the offered foot and swallows it whole.
Juvenile Pterrordax snatches the food out of the air.
Juvenile Pterrordax sniffs at the food before enthusiastically devouring it.
Juvenile Pterrordax screeches in glee and gobbles up the offered chow.
< The pterrordax tilts its head to the side as you approach. >
Skree?
< The pterrordax crows in greeting. >
< The pterrordax bobs its head vigorously in your direction. >
< The pterrordax gurgles playfully at you. >
< The pterrordax sniffs at you. >
< The pterrordax snaps its jaws impatiently. >
< The pterrordax turns its head to examine you. It gives a sharp cry in greeting. >
Heart of Azeroth
Champion, come back te Silithus. I've discovered how we can be healin' Azeroth!
Magni, tell me what we can do to heal Azeroth.
Champion, I need ye at Silithus, Azeroth has been whisperin' something... your name!
The amulet can absorb azerite and grow stronger! Find more azerite, champion, and use it to empower the Heart of Azeroth.
The Heart of Azeroth can heal the planet's wounds... but ye need to get it more power if we're gonna stop it permanently.
More wounds be appearin' throughout the planet, and more forces be seekin' te use it for their own ends.
Ye need te stop these forces and absorb any azerite they be usin' te empower the heart!
Magni, I'm ready to receive Azeroth's gift.
I can be sensin' azerite nearby... and those who wouild seek to abuse it for their own ends. Ye got te stop them!
Several azerite wounds be exposed nearby, use yer Heart of Azeroth te heal them!
Ye did good, champion. I can be hearin' Azeroth recoverin' her strength, thanks te ye.
The Heart of Azeroth be gettin' stronger, thanks te ye. We be one step closer te curing Azeroth of her wounds.
Transmog
Oi! $n! You think that helm goes with those boots?
I've seen horses with better transmog!
Hey, Statler, check out the gear on $n!
Yeah where'd that set drop? Off a trogg?!
You see the outfit on $n? It doesn't look half bad!
You're right! It looks all bad!
Oi, Statler, hand me my sword! There's a quilboar comin' down the road!
Waldorf that ain't no quilboar, it's just another one of them "heroes"!
What in the world is that smell?!
I think it's another one of them "heroes". Smells like somebody was standing in fire!
Well, that adventurer sure looks different.
Yeah! I mean, they look terrible, but definitely different!
$n! Oi, $n! We've got a quest for ya!
Yeah! Go find yourself a stylist!
Oi, Waldorf! Is that the "famous" $r that showed up with Jaina?
I think it is! Boy, they smell worse than I imagined! Ha!
Well well well, look what the saurolisk dragged in! It's $n!
I'd say they're looking worse for wear... but I think they always look that bad!
Tortollans
A new face! And a friendly one I think. Care to try something special? Or perhaps you are looking for rare spices or recipes?
You have an extensive pantry. Is there anything missing from your spice rack?
Oh! I've wanted to use Century Sauce for ages! It's a cooking paste made of several ingredients all blended together and then allowed to ferment for centuries. The longer it ferments the more complex the flavor profile. It is said to add a distinctive spice and tang to any dish.
There are rumors some of the Tortollan traders carry it, but it is rare and wildly expensive.
< Xun Xun sighs wistfully >
We tortollans have traded on this spot for a very long time. Eventually the Zandalari built up around us, but hard times have come upon them. We, of course, will endure.
Have you ever heard of something called 'Centry Sauce' ? Do you have any?
Hmmmmm. Yes. Let me look.
< Kooda rummages around for a long while before pulling out a jar from the depths of the pack. >
Bought this a couple hundred years ago. I'd forgotten about it. I suppose I could sell it.
Warfronts
High Perch is ours. Where's that retribution, Turalyon? I'm waiting...
Keep waiting, orc. It shall come soon enough.
We've captured High Perch. Muradin! I can see your big nose from up here!
And I can smell yer arse from down here! Bring it on, orc!
High Perch belongs to the Horde. Or should I say... the "green-skins".
Pshh. You and your kind are all the same. You'll die on your knees, like the rest did.
We've taken High Perch, and with it, the high ground. The tide is turning in our favor.
Pfah! High ground is overrated!
Muradin... we've taken High Perch. You ready to come out an' fight yet?
Soon enough, laddie. I figure I'll let me riflemen soften ye up a bit first.
High Perch is ours, Turalyon. De shadows draw closer...
Yet the Light still shines over Stromgarde.
High Perch has fallen to da Horde, Trollbane.
Shut your mouth, troll. The Alliance will prevail over your filthy army of monsters.
High Perch is ours! The Horde army is coming for you, Turalyon.
Yes... I'm counting on it.
High Perch is ours! One step closer to claiming Arathi for the Horde!
Save your celebrations, blood elf. You still have to deal with me.
Now, bring in the demolishers! Take down that gate! We'll hang that dwarf's rotten head on a pike!
Ye'll have to get to it first, laddie. Dark Irons, now!
Now, bring in the demolishers! Take down that gate! Let's show that Trollbane idiot what a few green-skins can do!
Stromgarde still stands, orc. I'll enjoy watching your corpse float in my moat. Gryphons, attack!
Now, bring in the demolishers! Take down that gate! This battle is as good as over!
I've won and lost thousands more battles than you've ever seen, Eitrigg. And this battle is far from lost. Lightforged, attack!
Bring in the demolishers! Destroy their gate! Force that dwarf to show his face!
I'll defend Stromgarde to my last, lassie. Dark Irons, your time has come!
Bring in the demolishers! Destroy their gate! Reduce Stromgarde to rubble!
I lost this city once - I won't lose it again. Especially to the likes of you. Gryphons, attack!
Bring in the demolishers! Destroy their gate! Your time has come, Turalyon!
The Light is behind me. Lightforged, bring those demolishers down!
Send in de demolishers! Dat dwarf can't hide behind his gate forever!
Bring it on, Rokhan! I've been waiting for you. Dark Irons, now!
Send in de demolishers! Destroy de gate! An' bring me de head of dat old fool Trollbane!
This old fool's still got a few tricks, troll. Gryphon riders, attack!
Send in de demolishers! No Light gonna protect dat paladin from de might of da Horde!
Now, Lightforged! Overwhelm the Horde. Bring down those tanks!
You dare invade Stromgarde, rightful home of the Trollbanes? Get out of my sight, green-skin.
"Green-skin"? Ohoho... now you've made me mad.
You dare invade Arathi? With a TROLL as your commander? You've made a terrible mistake.
Danath Trollbane... you an' I got a bone to pick! I'll be seein' ya out on the battlefield...
Ah ah ah. Ye best stop right there, lass, 'less ye want a face full o' Alliance mortar shells.
I'd like to see you try, Muradin. This is Horde territory now.
The Alliance will be at our door soon. We need to move fast. Secure wood and iron, so we can establish a position.
What's this... Horde invaders, with a paladin in command? What has this world come to?
You've been away for too long, Turalyon. The world's moved on without you.
The Alliance will be at our door soon. We need to move fast. Secure wood and iron, so we can establish a position.
Lady Liadrin! Welcome to Arathi. I trust you're here to surrender?
Hah! Think again, old man. We're here to take Stromgarde back.
The Alliance will be at our door soon. We need to move fast. Secure wood and iron, so we can establish a position.
You impudent worms have no right to be here.
Siege engines! Blast them off the map!
You were warned, Horde scum. Now prepare to be annihilated.
Siege engines, destroy them!
Focus on the task at hand. First we capture Northfold, then onward to Stromgarde!
Arathi will be ours! For the Horde!
I've won and lost thousands more battles than you've ever seen, Eitrigg. And this battle is far from lost. Lightforged, attack!
Stromgarde still stands, orc. I'll enjoy watching your corpse float in my moat. Gryphons, attack!
It's over. There's nowhere left to run.
Insolent BRAT. This is far from over!
Wait, no!
You three, get a search party down there and find her!
Hero, let's return to Katherine.

Class Halls
- Argus missions that award Blood of Sargeras now cost 600 more Order Hall Resources. This will not be correctly reflected in the Legion Companion App until its next version update.
- Developers’ notes: Completing these missions with bonus rewards previously returned more Order Hall Resources than they cost. Rather than reduce their yield, we’ve increased the cost of the missions so that players with ample Order Hall Resources can convert them to tradeskill materials.

Loot Rules for Transmog Runs
Since the Patch 7.3.5 change to use personal loot rules in leveling dungeons, we’ve heard a lot of feedback from Transmog hunters concerned about how this has affected the ability to collect appearances from older content. We hear you, and agree it’s a problem, so we’ve been working on a more robust solution for Battle for Azeroth.
Once these updates are implemented, entering a dungeon or raid that is trivial for you (i.e.: your character is 10 or more levels higher than the dungeon or raid’s intended level) will activate a “legacy loot mode.” That loot mode will work like this:
- The number of items dropped by bosses will be the same as it would have been if you were in a full party. So if you’re in a 5-player dungeon, you’ll get 5 players’ worth of loot.
- For raids with a flexible raid size (such as Raid Finder), this will act as though there were 20 players in the raid.
- All items on the loot table will have a chance to drop, not just the ones that are designated for your spec.
- If you have multiple players in the group, the loot will be split among those players, but be tradeable. For example, if you’re clearing with one other player and kill a boss that should drop 4 items, you’ll each be able to pick up two items and trade them between each other if you like.
While the personal loot change was a key part of what allowed us to expand leveling dungeons to encompass a wider range of levels, and we’re happy with it in that environment, we recognize that it’s not a great experience for those who enjoy clearing older content for transmog, and hope that these changes will make that more enjoyable once they’re complete.
Thanks again for all of the feedback!
WoW MVP Program - Recruitment Now Open!
Hey all!
As we announced last week, we are making some changes to the World of Warcraft MVP Program for North America. With this, one of the biggest changes is going to be in how we recruit our MVPs.
Going forward, we will be using an application-based recruitment system, which will allow us to ask targeted questions to candidates, as well as close and open recruitment as needed within a given period.
Today we will be opening our first recruitment period in 2018. You can find a link to the application here.
Please answer any discussion prompts thoroughly, and, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask us here. We look forward to reviewing applications over the next few weeks and we wish all of you applying the best of luck!
NOTE: The World of Warcraft North American MVP Program is only open to applicants from the North American service region including the United States and Canada. Applicants from Oceania and South America, including Mexico, will need to refer to their specific MVP Programs where applicable. Any applicants from outside the designated regions will be discarded.
> "Should You happen to strongly disagree with a Blizzard poster or another MVP over a topic on the forums, the discussion is best handled in private."
What is meant by "strongly" in this context? Is it an implication that it may threaten your ability to discuss it in a purely constructive manner or are you actually suggesting that if MVPs are particularly concerned about an issue that they should go directly to Blizzard rather than post it publicly, as any other forum poster would?
Additionally, if I fill out half of this application and don't submit it, is any record of it kept? I do not wish to apply. I simply want to see what all is in the application.
As an FYI, that wording is from our original MVP Program legalese, and hasn't been changed for this recruitment period.
In this context, I think it lends that we expect that our MVPs will be passionate posters on a variety of topics. Sometimes, its easy to see that what one may post in those kinds of discussions could disrupt your ability to be a constructive member of the community, as required by the program. We would advise that our MVPs should message those disagreements with other MVPs or CMs to us privately so we can try to resolve them without any breach of the program terms that may lead to forum tirades, etc. The forums aren't a place for drama between CMs, MVPs, posters, or otherwise.
The final page of the application will automatically submit the form once you see the screen that notes it has been submitted, yes. The last page with form content is the one with the section asking for a response to a post on a variety of listed community issues. You should be able to go through it up to that question to view what is being asked.
If you'd like us to remove any form content you may have submitted, you can shoot me an email with the basic information you applied with such as your name and battle.net email.
Instead of having paid moderators blizz is going to recruit ppl to work for free, nice
I was going to just delete this, but I wanted to point a few things out because I've seen it elsewhere:
The MVP Program has been a part of the WoW Community for over ten years. In that time, we've had wonderful community volunteers who have worked to help players both on the forums and throughout our community, and I don't see that changing any time soon. Our MVP volunteers will continue to be passionate and dedicated WoW community members who will continue to do the work they've done for a decade.
Blizzard also employs wonderful folks in Community and Customer Support who handle a ton of stuff on you never see in the day-to-day who deserve credit regardless of if you see their work in action or not.
Our MVPs do *NOT* have any powers on the forums that our Moderators or Community Managers have, and just to clarify, having green text gives no forum ability besides... having green text.
So I get that Blizzard has a large number of paid employees we never see who do a lot for the community, and I also get the the WoW MVP role has been around for awhile so it's not like this is some new ground breaking thing. But what I don't get is how does any of this address the point of view that this is Blizzard recruiting people for a job they should be paid for and asking them to do it for free?We aren't recruiting anyone for a "job" here. The MVP program is a volunteer community effort for regular forum posters. We are simply opening entry into that program to a wider audience by having a recruitment application.
The MVP Program recognizes our passionate and constructive posters and asks them to continue contributing to the community, while giving them an avenue to discuss issues with us when needed. This does not change the nature of their usual discourse on the forums, and is mainly targeted at those posters who already devote a lot of time here by their own will.
MVPs do not moderate, facilitate any major amount of feedback past what they do voluntarily, build reports of any kind, etc.

The Lunar Festival Is Here! Join the Celebration Feb. 17– Mar. 3
Every year the druids of Moonglade hold a celebration of their city’s great triumph over an ancient evil. During the Lunar Festival, citizens of Azeroth have the opportunity to honor their elders by celebrating their sage wisdom, sharing in magnificent feasts…and of course, lighting fireworks.
The celebration has begun in Moonglade and your Lunar Festival Invitation is waiting. Join in the fun by dressing up in your Lunar Festival finery, launching fireworks, and paying homage to the Elders throughout Azeroth.
When: February 17 – March 3
Where: Moonglade with camps in Ironforge, Stormwind, Darnassus, Thunder Bluff, Orgrimmar, Undercity
Currency: Coin of Ancestry
The Lunar Festival is a time of celebration for the peoples of Azeroth. At the beginning of each year, elders of generations past manifest around the world to impart their wisdom upon all who listen. Should you encounter these venerable spirits in your travels and take the time to heed their wisdom, they may even pass along tokens of their gratitude — Coins of Ancestry, the lessons of a past age in physical form. Gather enough Coins of Ancestry and the Cenarion Circle will open their stores of celebratory garb, fireworks, trinkets, and recipes!
The Cenarion Circle has good cause to celebrate, for the Lunar Festival marks the return of many Ancients that fell in battles past: Goldrinn, Malorne, Aviana, and Cenarius himself. But this celebration is darkened by the eternal torment of one of their own — Omen, a wolf Ancient blessed by the moon goddess Elune, has risen from the depths of Moonglade’s lake. Though Omen was once as noble and proud as any Ancient, he was driven mad by the Burning Legion’s tainted magics during the War of the Ancients. Omen’s immortality means that he is forever cursed to return in his maddened state at the advent of each new year - and this year, he has grown further in power, a challenge for even heroes of level 90. Heroes must make haste to ease this tormented Ancient’s suffering, in the hopes that perhaps next year he will return with a clearer mind.
Seasonal Boss: Omen Returns!
The great wolf Omen was once a hero of this world. An embodiment of strength and fortune, Omen fought beside the heroes of the War of the Ancients until he succumbed to demonic magics. Turning against his allies, he raged across Azeroth, leaving death and terror in his wake. Omen was finally defeated in Moonglade, and he now sleeps among the silt of Lake Elune'ara. But each year, at the beginning of the festival, he stirs...
Main Quest Line
The celebration begins with an introductory quest, The Lunar Festival. The Cenarion Circle has invited all denizens of Azeroth to take part in the celebration of the Lunar Festival. You can learn more about the event by meeting with the Lunar Festival Harbinger.
It wouldn’t be a celebration without fireworks. You’ll be asked to buy some Lunar Fireworks and Cluster Fireworks to launch and complete the quest, Lunar Fireworks.
Once you’ve proven your firework prowess, you’ll receive your Lunar Festival Invitation to travel to Moonglade and speak with Valadar Starsong in Nighthaven. With your invitation at hand, you’ll be able to travel quickly to Moonglade by using the greater moonlight throughout the holiday.
The Lunar Festival currently has 16 achievements and 1 meta-achievement.

Upcoming Changes to the NA WoW MVP Program
Hey guys!
Over the past year we've had it on our plate to breathe a bit of life in the MVP program for World of Warcraft (you may have seen me mention it here and there, and I know the MVPs have been eagerly waiting for movement on this). After nearly a year of discussions, we're finally ready to start moving forward with a refresh of the MVP program for World of Warcraft!
Most of our active posters here know that when the MVP program was founded, it's goal was to recognize active forums poster who contributed to our community through things like high-quality class guides or assisting and guiding new players with helpful information. While being active and posting in a constructive manner will still be something we take into account, we realize that we now live in a world with Icy Veins, Wowhead, Reddit, and numerous other communities that didn't necessarily exist at the onset of this project. This leads our MVP group to not being able to actively fulfill it's original purpose on our singular forums platform.
All of this led us to think we needed to be realigning the purpose of the program slightly, as we want to more actively empower the group to engage in discussions with us on various community issues, happening on the forums and in our greater community. This would also include working to provide insight into community and gameplay feedback they may see around the community, with direct conversations between the WoW community team and the WoW MVP group as a whole on a regular basis, much as we do in our conversations with folks on Reddit, Discord, etc., something that hasn't been utilized to its best.
To facilitate this, we will be moving the WoW MVP program to an application-based recruitment system, which will address a few concerns we have currently with the recruitment process, as well as letting us asked targeted questions to candidates during certain recruitment periods, and hopefully widening the audience. We expect to open recruitment early next week, after the President’s Day holiday, so be on the lookout for a thread if you're interested!
Of note, these changes DO NOT affect any region or franchise outside of World of Warcraft in North America, and these changes also do not apply to our awesome Customer and Technical Support MVPs who do great things.
We look forward to getting to work on the program and hearing your feedback!
I hope this doesn't mean Crepe is losing his MVP status. I notice community MVPs are not listed as being spared these changes.
We're asking the MVPs to reapply for the process, but we will be keeping everyone who is able to meet the newer standards going forward!
I wouldn't expect any of the familiar faces you know to go away unless it's their own choice.
Combat Log Tool - Wipefest
Wipefest is a web tool that uses data from Warcraft Logs to display insights and timelines for raid encounters.
Insights aim to answer common questions that you might have about each pull, such as "Who is soaking Annihilations on Garothi Worldbreaker?", or "What pod rotation did we use on Antoran High Command?".
The timeline aims to provide a concise overview of the important events within a fight, such as major boss abilities, big cooldowns, and deaths. Timelines can be filtered easily, letting you quickly dig into certain mechanics, such as Fusillades, Fel Shields, and healing cooldowns, or if people used defensive cooldowns before they died.
You can also select players to focus in on them, giving you more information about the fight from their perspective. This feature still needs contributors to enable more specializations (you can find out more at the GitHub repository.
There's also a Discord server for any questions and suggestions!
Warcraft III Event
Two different Warcraft III streamers have been invited to an event at Blizzard that will take place at the end of this month. They haven't shared any details about whatever may be announced or take place.
There was a job posting for an unannounced MMO RTS project that required mobile experience earlier this year.

Venruki and Ziqo’s European Cup #1 MVP
MVP: Wallirik – XRB to the moon
During the European Qualifier Cup #1, Wallirik rose to the top of the heap as Ziqo and Venruki’s choice for MVP. As a part of a Warlock, Shaman, Druid team, Wallirik landed crucial spell locks and fears throughout the tournament to keep Zeepeye alive. According to Ziqo, not only was he solid defensively, he was also able to “180 situations” and generate “instant kills” using combinations with his Thalkiels consumption. This combination of offensive and defensive plays put him as both analysts choice for MvP.
Honorable Mention: Tsx – Ascendant formerly known as Rockets Esports
Tsx caught us all off guard in Europe Cup #1. Having joined Rockets Esports just 1 hour before sign-ups closed, he immediately displayed his individual prowess landing impossible Polymorphs against defending World Champions ABC, leading to their elimination from the tournament. His aggressive playstyle became an instant hit with the analysts, fitting perfectly with Ratapai’s play style.

Snow Fight - A WarCraft Tale
During these cold winter months, we’ve got a children’s book for you that’s sure to warm even the Lich King’s icy heart. Snow Fight: A Warcraft Tale is an exciting adventure featuring little Arthas, Thrall, and Varian, who give bullying the cold shoulder and learn that games are better with fair play.
Written by Chris Metzen and illustrated by Wei Wang, the book was created with the idea of finding fun ways to share some of the Warcraft universe’s characters and ideas with kids. As Metzen says, telling lighter stories about our favorite heroes and villains seemed like a perfect way to share our passion for Warcraft with the young, imaginative minds we love most!

This Week in WoW History
We're taking a look back at old MMO-Champion posts and World of Warcraft news that occurred during this time in previous years.
Break The Trees
Singer/songwriter Sharm was featured in a blue post after the release of her latest song “Break The Trees”. The verses of this song were comprised of talent names from Warcraft. Sharm has been creating WoW Parody videos for the past 10 years and is still active on YouTube.
Iron Man Challenge
2012 marked the beginning of the Iron Man Challenge. This became one of the most popular challenges to date after a few players gave it a shot. The objective is simple - reach level cap. However, doing it within the confines of the rules is the difficult part. Players are not allowed to use and talents, class specializations, professions, enchants, stat-improved gear or the assistance of other players. The most important rule is that if your character dies at all the challenge is over.
Patch 5.4.7
This late Mists of Pandaria patch began the preparation for the new expansion Warlords of Draenor. The patch marked the beginning of the last PvP season of the expansion, added the Level 90 character boost, updated the launcher and added the Collector’s Edition mount/pet to the files.
Graphical Features
Patch 6.1 introduced a handful of new graphical settings to improve the quality of the game. Official colorblind support for Protanopia, Deuteranopia and Tritanopia were added along with a strength adjuster. The graphics tab also got a few new options including the addition of HBAO+ for screen space ambient occlusion (SSAO), a variety of settings for Anti-Aliasing and improved point light settings.
Death Knight Animations
Patch 7.2 added new animations to Howling Blast, Death Grip and Death and Decay. A few undocumented changes were also made to the casting animations of abilities such as Remorseless Winter, Blood Boil and Apocalypse. The initial Death and Decay particles were also changed shortly after the update due to players having issues seeing the affected area when cast on certain terrain.
Going Casual
Top end mythic raiding in Legion, especially in the Nighthold, started to cause issues in certain guilds. The required time investment to stay at the top was too much, causing guilds to either go casual or stop raiding altogether. Most notably From Scratch and SNF announced that they would stop, while Midwinter also called it quits after defeating Grand Magistrix Elisande, with the intention of going casual.
World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 2
The second Chronicle book was previewed on IGN, giving us a few teasers about what we should anticipate from the graphic novel. This book series was written to tell the story of Warcraft and everything it entails. Volume 1 covered everything from creation until the rise of humanity, while Volume 2 tells us the story of Ancient Draenor. Currently the Chronicle series is set to release Volume 3 on March 27, 2018.

The Mythic Dungeon Invitational Is Back: Get Ready for the Proving Grounds
As we announced during our WoW Esports live stream, Season 2 of the Mythic Dungeon Invitational is almost here! It’s time for the best dungeon teams from around the globe to show us what you’ve got. To kick things off, we wanted to share some additional details on this season’s Proving Grounds.
Everything You Need to Know About Proving Grounds
Feb 27 - Proving Ground Week 1 – Raging, Volcanic, Tyrannical
- Americas: February 27 at 7 a.m. PST
- Europe: February 27 at 11 p.m. PST
- China: February 28 at 3 p.m. PST
- APAC: February 28 at 3 p.m. PST
Mar 6 - Proving Ground Week 2 – Teeming, Explosive, Fortified
- Americas: March 6 at 7 a.m. PST
- Europe: March 6 at 11 p.m. PST
- China: March 7 at 3 p.m. PST
- APAC: March 7 at 3 p.m. PST
Like last season, we’re kicking things off with a period we call Proving Grounds, when teams come together to prove they’ve got what it takes. This year’s Proving Grounds will be similar to last year’s, with a few slight changes.
The Proving Grounds period kicks off for the Americas region on February 27 at 7 a.m. PST (10 a.m. EST). Week 2 begins March 6 at the same time, and the Proving Grounds ends March 13 at 7 a.m. PST (10 a.m. EST). Teams on Oceanic realms will also use this time frame for submitting scores from the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. This will ensure that their runs line up with the appropriate Mythic Keystone affix rotation cycles.
During the two-week Proving Grounds period, you’ll form a group of five friends and tackle the highest difficulty Mythic Keystone dungeons you can handle. Your goal is to complete a total of five level 23 Mythic Keystone dungeons over those two weeks. Keep in mind the following:
- Your group must have the same five player characters for all five runs; you can’t swap in another character.
- Duplicate dungeons won’t count toward your runs, so make sure you tackle a variety.
- Runs must be completed within the Keystone timer to count (the timer varies by dungeon).
Once your group has completed the dungeons on the required difficulty, you’ll need to choose a team captain to register your team. Check back on this post when the Proving Ground period ends to learn more about where and how to submit your best time.
If your team clears the dungeons, submits their times by the deadline, and meets the requirements (regional eligibility, accounts in good standing), you’ll receive an invitation to the Mythic Dungeon Invitational tournament realm for the next stage of the tournament: the Time Trials.
We’ll post the official rules for the tournament soon, but in the meantime, make sure that you and your team members meet our regional eligibility requirements:
-
Americas – This region includes legal residents of the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, and Argentina, excluding the U.S. states of Arizona, Connecticut, Maryland, North Dakota, and Vermont, the Canadian province of Quebec, and where otherwise prohibited or restricted.
-
Europe – This region includes legal residents of Algeria, Austria, Bahrain, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Morocco, Norway, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, State of Qatar, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Ukraine, Tunisia, Turkey, and the United Kingdom, excluding where otherwise prohibited or restricted.
-
China – This region includes legal residents of the People’s Republic of China, excluding where otherwise prohibited or restricted.
- Asia-Pacific – This region includes legal residents of Hong Kong, Macau, Korea, Taiwan, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia, excluding where otherwise prohibited or restricted.
We’ll be back soon to discuss Stage 2 of the Mythic Dungeon Invitational, the Time Trials. Until then, good luck in the Proving Grounds! -
Battle for Azeroth Alpha - Build 26032
Hunter Pets in Battle for Azeroth
As we’ve kicked off the Battle for Azeroth Alpha, we’ve seen a lot of discussion about the new way Hunter pets work. While we’re by no means finished, we have reached a place where we want to share some insight into our plans and explain some of what you might see in development as Alpha continues.
Our primary thoughts on pets going forward:
-
Move past the idea of a DPS/Tank pet specialization - In Battle for Azeroth, all pets will have equal damage, health, and armor. All can tank or DPS equally. Choosing to put a particular pet into “Tank spec” feels outdated, so we’re going to shift all pets to a setup that will work as though they’re specced into both Ferocity and Tenacity (in Legion terms). All offensive and defensive passive abilities such as Blood of the Rhino and Combat Training will be rolled into every pet by default. Charge will be removed, and all pets will have Growl and Dash/Swoop. Some spec-specific actives will be redistributed where appropriate. We are keeping the names Ferocity, Tenacity, and Cunning as the broad groups that all families fall into. They are no longer changeable, and each has a new passive and active ability that are useful in almost any situation.
-
Maintain and/or reinstate pet family uniqueness - Pet family flavor is part of what makes selecting a companion unique and special, and want to emphasize that even more. A special ability has been added to all pet families that were missing one. Exotic Pets still have their unique ability (like Surface Trot) in addition to a new ability. Pure flavor abilities that many pets have are also staying like Trick and Rest.
-
Expanding access to Bloodlust, and the removal of Battle Res from pets - In Legion, all Hunters have access to Bloodlust and Battle Res, but they only exist among a handful of families, which leads to very narrow options. To that end, Bloodlust will be available on roughly a third of the tamable pet families rather than just two. In a world where we are proliferating abilities to many families, our first inclination was to add Battle Res to a separate third of those families. After seeing that landscape, it felt odd to fully embrace Resurrection as part of the Hunter kit. Further, moving into Battle for Azeroth, we are solidifying Bloodlust and Battle Res as the strong shared cooldowns that a group can bring - one offense, one defense. In that world, Hunters having access to both of the super powerful group benefits didn’t feel appropriate.
- A variety of pet ability packages - It’s important to acknowledge that some hunters want to maximize their impact with their pet, while others are collectors who want a pet for every occasion. There should be opportunities to cleverly swap from one pet to another in a given situation and reap the benefit. At the same time, the Hunter who has grown attached to their spider named Fluffy should feel effective across the game. We’re going to try to ensure that every pet package is attractive, with a unique combination of benefits that work in many situations.
Here are some specifics of the Battle for Azeroth design for Hunter pets:
There are currently 51 pet families, and each family will be categorized as Ferocity, Tenacity, or Cunning. Each will have an active and a passive, and the active will be a Hunter class button that changes contextually with your active pet.
-
Ferocity
- Primal Rage (Active - Bloodlust)
- Predator’s Thirst (Passive - 3% Leech for you and your pet)
-
Tenacity
- Survival of the Fittest (Active - 20% damage reduction for the Hunter and Pet for 6 seconds with a 3 minute cooldown)
- Endurance Training (Passive - 10% max health for you and your pet)
-
Cunning
- Master’s Call (Active – a friendly target and your pet are immune to root and moment impairing effects for 4 seconds with a 45 second cooldown)
- Pathfinding (Passive - 8% movement speed for you and your pet)
Each pet family will get one of six different abilities, and each ability will have a unique name themed to the family. Precedented abilities such as Ankle Crack - 50% Snare, Monstrous Bite - Healing Reduction Debuff, Shell Shield – 50% Reduced Damage Taken, Agile Reflexes - 30% Dodge, and Thick Hide – Reduced Damage Taken at Low Health already exist in the game, and we’re exploring adding something similar to Tranquilizing Shot to the list.
While this does create a landscape where there may only be a handful of families that exactly fit the combination of tools you prefer, each family was chosen with variety as a premium. There are winged creatures, predators, grazers, and more represented across as many abilities as possible, while keeping them thematically appropriate.
For two specific examples: a Spirit Beast in Battle for Azeroth still has Spirit Mend and Spirit Walk, and will gain Endurance Training and Survival of the Fittest. They also have a new ability, Spirit Shock, that dispels magic and soothes enraged enemies. Cats, on the other hand, gain Catlike Reflexes – a 30% dodge cooldown – in addition to Primal Rage and Predator’s Thirst. Both pets have equal damage, health, and armor – both can tank or DPS equally.
Nowadays, only about half of the pet families out there have a useful ability, and we want to improve on that. In Battle for Azeroth, Bloodlust will be much more prominent, so Hunters should no longer feel bound to Core Hounds and Nether Rays as their best options. Most importantly, these changes should result in a pet landscape where all pets can serve as dps or tank as well as they could in Legion.
Please remember that all of the above, especially the numbers, are subject to change as we test in the Battle for Azeroth Alpha. Feel free to discuss anything related to Hunter pets here. We really appreciate your feedback!
Mobile/Web Auction House Update
Just letting you all know that we are working on a hotfix at the moment to re-enable the Web and Mobile AH.
Due to changes made in 7.3.5, players will be need to have logged in to the game since the patch launch in order to be able to access the Mobile AH once this hotfix is live. Just for some additional clarity, these database changes were why we disabled the tools on the launch of 7.3.5 and why it took us a little bit to update them.
Soon as I'm aware that this is live I'll update the thread. -
